In response to your statement about you never play as a female
character I’d like to share my point of view.
I am a straight male but I prefer to play as female characters in
games. Since I was a teenager I have felt more of a connection to
females in real life and in media than males. I kinda realised that so
many guys both in real life and in media repulse me with the way they
act. I’m not talking about the way they treat women or anything like
that specifically, just in general.
When I play as a female character I feel like we are in it together.
Like a duo teaming up to take on whatever is coming ahead in the game
even when the females is just a skin and new voice on the male
character like in a MMO. I don’t get that connection to most male
characters. For instance I felt far more connected to my Fem Shep from
Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3 than I ever did the Male Shep I did my first
ever Mass Effect 1 run with.
It gets tricky when it comes to romance tho, in all 3 ME’s I have my
Fem Shep romance Liara as a single gender alien race that looks female
is easier for me to see my in game partner in crime romance than a
male which just makes me feel uncomfortable and a lesbian relationship
makes me feel like a pervert.
There is the occasional male character I feel the same connection to
like Cole as he was written in Infamous 2 (but not the first
Infamous), but I feel like most male characters are a tool for me to
shoot up aliens or toss a ball into a hoop. I don’t know if I’m crazy
or if thats even healthy but thats just how I feel.
