  1. Pingback: It’s an AppSlappy and Final Score kind of day!

  2. Gamefly SUCKS. I cancelled my account on the 15th of August, which was a Sunday. I mailed the last game back the next day, a Monday. It is now almost 3 weeks later and they have since charged me for that game because they claim they haven’t received it. This is after they took over TWO WEEKS to send me THAT ONE. They have the worst service ever, and Nicole’s “method” can’t change that.

I am giving them until Monday to replace my money before I call them and get really angry.

  3. My problem with the extra $10 is that I am paying for things I’m not using. I have NEVER bought a single movie, song, TV show or avatar from Xbox Live. All I get out of Xbox Live is online gaming and the occasional game from the Xbox Live Arcade. What do I, the gamer, get out of the extra $10? NOTHING.

The only thing keeping me from droping Xbox Live and switching to the PS3 is Halo. Other than that I have no use for the thing.

  4. I wanted to add my thoughts on buying used game, which is what I do a lot.

I think one area to look at is sports games and I’ll use Madden as an example, since it’s such a popular game. Let’s say I buy Madden 11 and I just love playing on-line against people. So I play lots of games and have a great time. Then next year, EA will release Madden 12 and the on-line community playing 11 will shrink considerable. Eventually, EA will stop supporting Madden 11 on-line play and the game will be relegated to off line use only. So, with sports games, the on-line aspect, which is heavily promoted, has a short life span in comparison to most other genres, like shooters (Halo, Call of Duty).

So when you look at the sports genre, the developers force gamers to buy new games every year if they wish to continue playing on-line. Therefore, I don’t have any problem with people buying used games because they are already getting a smaller time frame to play on-line. And, to pick on EA a little bit, the price of their sport games do not drop very much as the game ages. I think it would be a good marketing strategy to drop the price of a sports game significantly when there are only a few months left before the next version is released. In that way, maybe you can attract some new players to the game and they will be willing to buy the new version to continue enjoying the on-line playing.

In games that do not have on-line capabilities, I can understand the developers being upset. Every used sale costs them money. The stores that sell used games do encourage people to buy them because there is such a higher profit margin for them. And, it is also harder to find older titles in any condition, so why should anyone be limited to having to buy new only?

You cannot stop the buying and selling of used games. I think what could be done is a deal worked out with the developers and retailers. They can track every game the sell. Why not come up with some sort of charge that goes to the developer for the sale of a used game. And, I’m thinking something very small, no more than a dollar per sale.

Another idea would be to maybe have a small sign up charge for on-line games. So, I buy Madden and pay $3 (or however many points that is) to sign up for on-line play. Then I sell the game and then next guy pays $3 to play on-line. Throw a little dlc for signing up and you won’t get too much criticism.

I understand that the developers need income to keep making games. But, at the same time, they cannot expect games to buy nothing but new games. Well, that’s my 24 Xbox Points worth.
